All Things and Sourdough

Sourdough starter

I have, since I’ve been married, dreamt of being a homemaker and only a homemaker. I now see that dream come to fruition, 22 years later, but what is the saying? Better late than never!

Not to the fault of anyone but only our own choices have I had to be of help outside our home on the Ranch. I love being outside and helping where I can but with having too many hats on, something had to suffer and my homemaking skills were put on the back burner. I desired to stay inside my kitchen and create creations from my own hands. I wanted so badly to eat all the basics that our good Lord has given us. Our own beef, garden produce, raw milk from a cow (though I do buy milk from a local dairy 🙃) and now I’m trying my hand at sourdough!

This year 2024 I contemplated going back to school and getting more courses under my belt but no timelines worked with our schedule. My kiddos are now done high school but I still feel I need to be here for them until they are married and on their own, officially. One is in college the other working full time on the ranch, writing and creating music and yes living at home which we are thrilled about.

Then came along the desire to try my hand at sourdough and all the health benefits that came along including being so good for my soul. A new challenge that I so desired. Sure saves on the tuition fees I would have had to dish out, all that in good time. For now I will enjoy the fruits of my labour. I can compare it to sewing, embroidery, quilting, etc. A relaxing pastime that nourishes your insides literally!

I do try to share on here tools that have helped and encourage me that I then pass on to you. And wow, making this sourdough is so super relaxing! To be honest, initially I was stressed wanting to get the final product edible after all the hard work and effort put into the process. But now it’s so fun to have these doughy products produce what the pictures show. Who knew what flour and water could make!

My daughter is the expert and she gave me a crash course while home from college over the Christmas break. I thought there is no way I am going to be able to stretch the dough properly, keep all the timings correct in between all my other household/office duties. I don’t like the word luck or believe in it so I’m calling it beginners favour ☺️. All the recipes turned out and my guys gobbled it up faster than I can make it!!!

At lunchtime I told my husband, “thank you, he said for what?” I told him, “for making it possible for me to be a homemaker and these last few days I really feel like one!” He gave me a hug and a swat on the behind!

I am also so thankful for being able to create this healthy-good-for-your-gut-healing food. They say, whoever they is, that there is a connection between your gut and the state of your mind. I’m yet to do more research on this but all I say is to eat the healthy food that the Lord has created for us. Stay away from the other junk as much as you can. Your body will thank you for it!

Isaiah 1

19 If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.

Here is a link https://www.farmhouseonboone.com/ to where I got a lot of guided instruction. She is the queen of sourdough. Along with a YouTube link that was of great help.
