The Christmas season is full of emotions for so many people. Some are excited, ready for all the hustle and bustle but others can be dreading it. Some have memories from the past that haunt them and want to skip Christmas and others never want it to end. Then there are those who need to find that “perfect gift!”
Well for those of us who struggle with anxiety, panic attacks and depression we can find ourselves the perfect gift by doing the following check list. Sometimes when we struggle with our nervous system cooperating it can be something very simple as our thyroid misbehaving or our hormones unbalanced. Consider helping yourself and those around you by doing the following:
-Get a thorough medical check-up, and ask if any condition can be causing you anxiety.
-Ask your doctor to evaluate all your medications.
-Get adequate sleep.
-Get regular exercise.
-Plan times of laughter, fun, and recreation.
-Be around encouraging people, and remove yourself from negative ones.
-Adopt a healthy diet. Avoid alcohol and drugs.
-Develop the habit of living one day at a time.
-Listen to inspirational Christian or classical music.
-Ask a trusted friend to help you imagine the worst that could happen to you in a particular situation and consider why it wouldn’t be as bad as you feared it would be.
Checklist from the book, “How to Handle your Emotions” by June Hunt.
A couple more I would add from experience.
-Some of us are sensitive to medications, even natural ones so check what your daily putting into your body. Along with foods, caffeine is a big no-no for me.
-Talk with someone, a trusted friend, Pastor or counsellor.
-Read through scripture, mediate on it over and over. “Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with Thanksgiving make your requests known to God, and the Peace of God will protect your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus!” Philippians 4:6&7
Please don’t feel that you are alone in this struggle there are many that are right beside you. Next time we will discuss information on panic attacks.
Until then, keep keeping on!
